El Tatio Geysers

Departure Date

It is a geothermal field located in the Cordillera de los Andes, being the highest in the world (4,200 meters high) and is located 89 kilometers from San Pedro. It presents in the early morning hours an impressive activity of steam fumaroles produced by the high temperatures of its watery craters. It is surrounded by hills that reach 5900 meters high.

Tourists are recommended to take very warm clothes, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and mineral water. It is undoubtedly one of the most wonderful shows offered by the desert.

Its edges of mineral salts are soft, we must be careful when approaching. The color of the soil and the sky stands out among the steam columns of 7 meters high, under the first rays of the sun. It is a wonderful show. In the vicinity there are thermal pools where it is possible to bathe.

Approximately between 06:00 and 07:00 hours the maximum expression of these steam and water fumaroles occurs with temperatures reaching 85 ° C, and they emerge from the earth with force reaching heights between 7 and 8 m . In the route and in the place, it is possible to observe vicuñas, llamas, ñandúes and vizcachas, while in the flora the giant cactus, llaretas and coirón stand out. The temperature fluctuates between 15 ° C during the day and 2 ° C below zero at night.

The place also has pools of thermal water, encased with mineral deposits, upholstering the 10 km2 of the geothermal field, while, in the background, the summits of snow-capped volcanoes are silhouetted against a metallic blue sky.

With its famous setting and spectacular scenery, the Geysers are clearly one of the most impressive attractions to visit.
